Fostering the vendor-neutral and
standard-based mobile Internet



NetIDE - Entorno de desarrollo integrado para aplicaciones de red portables.

*While most of programmable network gear vendors support OpenFlow nowadays, a number of fragmented control plane solutions exist for proprietary software-defined networks. Thus, network applications developers need to re-code their solutions every time they target a network infrastructure based on a different controller, leading to network programs that are neither reusable nor shareable. NetIDE will deliver a single integrated development environment to support the whole development lifecycle of network controller programs in a vendor-independent fashion. NetIDE will approach the problem by proposing an architecture that will allow the different representations to be used to program the network and different controllers to execute the network programs. In particular, NetIDE will define an abstraction mechanism that allows implementing Network Applications for a controller of choice and deploying and running them on top of other controllers supporting different programming languages and APIs. Around it, we will explore fundamental research topics, such as: development and composition of controller agnostic Network Apps (applications that control network behavior) and Network Services (services that support the task of network controllers); cross-controller debugging and profiling of network programs; heterogeneous network programming; network programming with simulators in the loop. The NetIDE architecture will include a developer toolkit to allow creation of Network Apps, and a Network App Engine supporting the execution and testing of these Network Apps. NetIDE will result in one-stop solution for the development of SDN applications that covers the whole development lifecycle.*

Telcaria lidera la tarea T2.3 (NetIDE APIs e Integración) y trabaja principalmente en la arquitectura (WP2) y el IDE (WP3), aunque participa en todos los WPs. Su amplia experiencia en SDN/NFV, así como en soluciones TIC integradas, aseguran que estos WPs estarán perfectamente alineados con el resto del proyecto al completo.

Superfluidity - El proyecto SUPERFLUIDITY busca obtener "superfluidez" en Internet: la capacidad de instanciar servicios "sobre la marcha", ejecutarlos en cualquier parte de la red (núcleo, agregación, borde) y trasladarlos transparentemente a diferentes ubicaciones.

*The SUPERFLUIDITY project tackles crucial shortcomings in today’s networks: long provisioning times, with wasteful overprovisioning used to meet variable demand; reliance on rigid and cost-ineffective hardware devices and daunting complexity emerging from three forms of heterogeneity: traffic and sources, services and needs; and access technologies. The SUPERFLUIDITY solution is based on: a decomposition of network components and services into elementary and reusable primitives; a native, converged cloud-based architecture; the virtualization of radio and network processing tasks; platform-independent abstractions, permitting reuse of network functions across heterogeneous hardware platforms, while catering to the vendors’ need for closed platforms/implementations; and high performance software optimizations along with leveraging of hardware accelerators. As a result, the 5G network will benefit from: location-independence (network services deployable in heterogeneous networks), time-independence (near instantaneous deployment and migration of services), scale-independence (transparent service scalability) and hardware-independence (development and deployment of services with high performance irrespective of the underlying hardware). Through these properties, SUPERFLUIDITY will provide a converged cloud-based 5G concept that will enable innovative use cases in the mobile edge, empower new business models, and reduce investment and operational costs. The SUPERFLUIDITY consortium gathers an impressive and uncommon blend of Telco and IT players that can make its vision a reality.*

Telcaria participa en WP2 (casos de uso, requirimientos del sistema y análisis funcional), WP3 (arquitectura), WP4 (abstracciones e infraestructuras heterogéneas), WP5 (implementación de plataformas de virtualización y dinámica de red), WP6 (herramientas de gestión y orquestración del sistema) y WP8 (comunicación, diseminación, estandarización y explotación).
